The À la une – Enquête collection includes 3 sets of 50 books divided into 15 series of inquiries that generate new sources of questioning and wonder, while helping students hone their inquiry skills.
These books can be used for large-group, small-group or independent reading. Each fiction or non-fiction book in the series is linked to a general inquiry question that leads to the exploration of major concepts in the natural sciences and humanities.
Among the 150 titles in the collection, 30 books showcase the talents of Canada’s Inuit, Métis and First Nations people!
The Level 1 set consists of 50 books, divided into reading levels C to J, to be used for inquiry-based learning.
The Level 2 set consists of 50 books, divided into reading levels H to M, to be used for inquiry-based learning.
The Level 3 set consists of 50 books, divided into reading levels L to P, to be used for inquiry-based learning.
In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, À la une - Enquête integrates texts written and edited by Indigenous people. These books contain stories and informational texts reflecting the past and present lives of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples from all over Turtle Island. There are 30 books in all created through Indigenous perspectives in the collection, or 10 in each of the 3 sets.
The collection offers a level-by-level teaching guide that provides a model for inspiring, initiating and facilitating inquiry-based learning. Available with the guides, the teaching posters allow teachers to describe the steps in the inquiry process, while serving as a reminder when students answer the questions in the books.
